Guide to Registering for ACCA Exams in Malaysia

The process for registering for ACCA exams in Malaysia is divided into two main phases: initial student registration with ACCA Global and the subsequent booking of specific exam papers. We recommend completing your registration early to allow sufficient time for document verification and to secure your preferred exam slots.

Step 1: Initial Student Registration

Before you can sit for any exams, you must register as an official ACCA student. This is done through the ACCA Global website and requires a one-time registration fee.

Required Documentation

You will need to prepare digital copies of the following documents for your application:

  • Identification: A copy of your National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) or Passport.
  • Academic Certificates: SPM, STPM, Foundation, Diploma, or Degree transcripts and certificates.
  • Exemption Documents: If you are a graduate from a local university like UUM, UiTM, or UM, ensure you provide your full transcripts to claim relevant exemptions.
  • Passport-sized Photo: A recent digital photograph of yourself.

Registration Fees

The initial registration fee is approximately?89. Once your application is processed (usually within 5 to 7 working days), you will receive your ACCA ID, which is essential for all future exam bookings.

Step 2: Booking Your Exam Papers

The method for booking exams depends on the level of the paper you are attempting. In Malaysia, exams are conducted as Computer-Based Exams (CBE).

On-Demand CBEs (BT, MA, FA, and LW)

For the Applied Knowledge level and the Law paper, exams are available throughout the year. These are not booked through the global portal. Instead, you must:

  • Identify a licensed CBE Centre in Malaysia (such as Sunway College, Taylor?, or speciallized accounting academies).
  • Contact the centre directly to check for seat availability.
  • Pay the exam fee to the centre and choose your preferred date.

Session CBEs (Applied Skills and Strategic Professional)

Higher-level papers are held during four specific exam windows: March, June, September, and December. These must be booked through your myACCA portal.

  1. Log in to your myACCA account.
  2. Navigate to the Exam Planner section.
  3. Select the paper you wish to sit for.
  4. Choose your preferred exam centre location (e.g., Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or Johor Bahru).
  5. Complete the payment using a credit card, debit card, or PayPal.

Important Deadlines and Strategies

To avoid late entry fees, always register during the Standard Entry period, which usually closes about six weeks before the exam week. For students under the MARA Young Talent Programme (YTP) or those planning to study at Griffith College Cork through EDUMi.my, it is advisable to align your exam bookings with your academic semester dates in Ireland.

  • Check Exemptions: If you have a degree in accounting, you might be exempt from up to nine papers. Check the ACCA Exemption Calculator before paying for any papers.
  • Ethics Module: Complete the Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM) before you attempt the Strategic Professional papers to improve your passing chances.
  • Location: If you are planning to travel or study abroad, remember that you can book your exams in Malaysia and later change your location to Ireland or the UK through the portal.

Following these steps ensures a smooth transition into your professional accountancy journey. If you require assistance with placements applications for your ACCA journey in Ireland, feel free to contact the EDUMi.my advisory team.
